More than 1,500 arrests for drunken driving were made over the 10-day holiday period in Los Angeles County, authorities said Tuesday.
The preliminary data arising from the operation shows that a task force made up of 100 law enforcement agencies arrested 1,506 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 16, through midnight Dec. 25, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department statement. There were 1,260 DUI arrests during the same period in 2010, it said.

Some agencies have yet to report their arrest numbers, so the final figure is expected to be higher, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
