Calvin Perry, 42, was arrested in the 13200 block of Sunland Street at about 9:30 p.m. after the collision, Sgt. John Mattke said. No one was hurt in the incident.

“As deputies were responding to the scene, we received calls that the driver was extremely under the influence and was trying to walk away from the collision,” he said. “Bystanders were attempting to keep him at the scene until deputies arrived to detain him.”

Through an investigation it was learned Perry had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit, Mattke said. Officials also learned Perry had recently been released from prison for his fourth felony DUI conviction.

DUI Conviction: Jack Mizer, 9th convictions, feb 15 2011

Posted on 16th February 2011 in DWI / DUI Convictions

Jack Mizer, 54, pleaded guilty to two cases involving four felony counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

These two arrests were Mizer’s eight and ninth DUI convictions over the last 20 years.

Prosecutors called Mizer one of the greatest threats to public safety in Maricopa County and noted his insistence to continue to drink and drive.

"This repeat offender is a menace to our community and will spend most if not all of the rest of his life in prison where he belongs," said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. "We will prosecute just as aggressively anyone who disregards the safety of our citizens by making the wrong decision to drink and drive."

Mizer’s latest DUI arrest happened while he was under a court order to not drink and drive after an arrest on February 6, 2010.

On February 6, police observed him driving his truck in a bike lane and drifting into two other traffic lanes. His blood alcohol level registered at .293.

DWI Arrest: Elizabeth W. Geist, feb 15 2011

Posted on 16th February 2011 in DWI / DUI Arrests

Elizabeth W. Geist, 50, was arrested on two second-degree felony assault charges, a DUI charge and other misdemeanors.

Police said they observed a tan 1999 Nissan Maxima swerving in the 1200 block of Noble Street just after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Two patrol officers stopped the car and asked Geist to perform a field sobriety test.

Investigators said Geist failed the sobriety test. Police arrested Geist on the DUI charge, handcuffed her and put her in the back of one of the patrol cars.

When those patrol officers went to help Geist from the car after it had arrived at the Anniston Police Department, they realized she had managed to slip her hands out of the cuffs. Geist began to struggle with the officers, kicking and hitting them, Capt. Richard Smith said.

Geist punched one officer in the nose and another in the eye, Smith said.

After getting Geist back under control, Smith said, officers charged the woman with resisting arrest and the two felony charges for assaulting officers.

A police report shows Geist was also arrested on a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge for a marijuana pipe officers said they found in her Maxima.

DUI Arrest: Troy Lawson, Feb 11 2011

Posted on 11th February 2011 in DWI / DUI Arrests

Troy Lawson, 35, walked into municipal court Wednesday afternoon facing an unusual slate of seven first-time DUI charges over a 21-month period. Police accused him of being under the influence of a substance other than alcohol.

Lawson pleaded guilty to two first-time DUI charges, though it was not clear how or why both were considered “first time” offenses.

Municipal prosecutor Gerald Patch said he dropped three other DUI charges because the arresting officers have since been “relieved of duty,” calling into question their credibility as witnesses. Deputy Police Chief David Ervin yesterday did not immediately give details about what led to the dismissal of the officers, John Mix and Seth Ledet.

Patch said he is sending the remaining DUI cases against Lawson to District Attorney Hal Kittrell, who will decide whether to ask a grand jury to indict him on felony charges.

David Peck, 60, of Lower Burrell was sentenced to serve a maximum of five years behind bars, the mandatory term for multiple drunken-driving DUI offenses.

Peck was arrested March 4 by Arnold police after witnesses spotted him weaving on roadways and sideswiping at least one parked car. A motorist followed Peck and alerted police as she drove behind Peck through Arnold and New Kensington.

Police said Peck’s car eventually hit the vehicle whose driver had been monitoring his driving. Peck was arrested as he pulled into the driveway of his Lower Burrell home.

According to court records, Peck’s speech was slurred, and he failed field sobriety tests. His blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.215 percent, which is more than twice the limit at which a motorist in Pennsylvania is considered to be intoxicated.

DUI Conviction: Martin Arizmendi-Sanchez, Twin Falls County, Jan 31 2011

Posted on 1st February 2011 in DWI / DUI Convictions

Martin Arizmendi-Sanchez, 47, faced sentencing Monday in Twin Falls County 5th District Court and received 10 years in state prison with the possibility for parole in three years. He pleaded guilty to felony DUI in mid-December.

Judge G. Richard Bevan said that after considering community safety and Arizmendi-Sanchez’s four DUI convictions in four years, “I believe a penitentiary sentence is warranted.”

Arizmendi-Sanchez was also fined $1,000 and will have his license suspended for three years upon release. He also faces additional prison time as this conviction violated his probation for a 2008 DUI conviction in Jerome County. He was given a suspended sentence for that case of two to eight years in prison, which is now re-imposed.
